The latest installment of the 'Step Up' dance movie franchise, 'Step Up 3D' takes the popular film to the streets of New York and with the addition of 3D technology. And, this time around the music is still the centerpiece of the story.
For the third 'Step Up' movie, director Jon Chu enlisted the help of one of today's most popular rap stars -- chart-topping Atlantic Records rapper Flo Rida.
"We heard a couple songs he was throwing at us for the movie, but when we heard 'Club Can't Handle Me,' it was the perfect fit and summer fun song," Chu shared with the BV Newswire earlier this week during press rounds for the movie in Los Angeles.
"I love his energy and I think he embodies the 'Step Up' franchise through his whole vibe."
The Grammy Award nominee shared his excitement on being a part of a major summer flick.
"They reached out to me and in creating this record I had been working with David Guetta and just doing shows and one show in particular we were in the Bahamas and decided to cut a record and came up with 'Club Can't Handle Me,'" he explained.
'Club Can't Handle Me,' the theme to 'Step Up 3D,' is included on the movie's soundtrack alongside songs from Estelle, Trey Songz, Busta Rhymes and Jazmine Sullivan.
Since bursting on the scene with his #1 hit record 'Low,' the 30 year-old rapper, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, has churned out several chart-toppers, which have also been featured prominently in films, like the catchy 'Right Round' from the comedy 'The Hangover.'
With 'Step Up 3D,' the Carol City, Florida native is hoping to inspire dancers with this new joint.
"This song fits best with the movie because it has a lot of energy and can be an inspiration to dancers who really want to take their dance moves to the next level," he said.
"If you feel like your swag is up and you got the hottest dance moves you want to rock out to a Flo Rida track."
'Step Up 3D' follows a group of New York street dancers, including two newcomers Rick Malambri stars as Luke and Shari Vinson as Natalie. It also prominently features a who's who of 'So You Think You Can Dance' finalists, like Stephen 'Twitch' Boss and Jonathan 'Legacy' Perez.
And, though he respects the talented dancers in the film, Flo Rida says don't expect him to hit the dance floor to his tracks anytime soon.
"I don't have dance moves," he confided. "I just go to the club watch the ladies do their thing and kick back. I might bob my head if I'm really feeling the track [but] I don't dance...none of that," he laughed.
Speaking of ladies, although previously romantically linked to former R&B superstar Brandy, Flo Rida recently revealed on 'The Wendy Williams Show' that he's currently dating 'America's Next Top Model' winner Eva Marcille.
On this day at West Hollywood's Mondrian Hotel, he was keeping mum on details saying "I'm really a low key guy," also sharing that he is seeing someone special but that he wants to "keep it on the low low."
Regardless of how much of his personal life he wants to share, Flo Rida's career is booming and he's happy that he is affiliated with 'Step Up 3D' and is hoping that the movie does well.
"Dancing is a positive thing and it puts smiles on people's faces. It's hot all the way around the board [from] the music in the film and the great actors."
'Step Up 3D' hits theaters Aug. 6.
The movie soundtrack to 'Step Up 3D' is in stores nationwide now.
