Set in the mid 90s, 'Love and Other Drugs' follows the rise of a drug rep whose struggles and successes are challenged by his relationship with a woman suffering from Alzheimer's. Although the film is fun, flirty, and overall heartwarming, I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow to one of the central themes in the film. Would you get involved with someone who you know has an incurable, degenerative disease, accepting that you will have to take care of them while you watch them deteriorate? In this era of selfishness, amongst the "It's all about me" generation, I dare say the answer is, NO! Like many romantic comedies, feel free to suspend relationship reality for the idiom "love conquers all".
This film did make me nostalgic, and Anne Hathaway was a delight to watch, bringing that same charismatic energy Julia Roberts' brought to 'Pretty Woman'. There is quite a bit of nudity so for those of you with modest sensibilities, cover your eyes. As for the rest of you, Jake Gyllanhaal's asset's are like finding marshmallows in the sweet potato. "More? Yes Please!" 'Love and Other Drugs' is a sweet pill to swallow, and that's exactly what we need on this holiday weekend.
