The National Action Network, a civil rights organization created by Reverend Al Sharpton, has chosen Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad, who currently stars in 'For Colored Girls,' Radio One founder Cathy Hughes, and the Broadway musical 'Fela!' as three of this year's honorees for its Triumph Awards.
Every year, the National Action Network recognizes those people who have made a positive impact beyond their performance on stage and in the arts and music. According to Sharpton, this year's honorees have helped to promote the organization's mission of social justice for all communities and people regardless of race of sex.

"The artists, entertainers and athletes that are being honored have made a mark in their professions and have recognized the need to remain connected to something bigger and greater than any individual achievement," Sharpton said.

"They have remained connected to the people, have supported their growth and development, and realized that together we are a better world. "

Also being honored will be television commentator and activist Julie Menin and Grace Baptist Church senior pastor Reverend Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson.

This year's festivities will take place Nov.15 at New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center and are being hosted by Ed Schultz and Mara Schiavocampo from MSNBC.
