It has been a few months since the rumor mill went in to high gear with stories about
sexual trysts between former Cleveland Cavalier's Delonte West (pictured above) and LeBron James' mom Gloria (pictured below). On Monday during his team's media day, West, who is now a
Boston Celtic, was caught off guard when he was confronted with the question about whether he had a sexual relationship with Gloria.
"Not at all,'' said West, who did not appear unnerved as he addressed the slew of nosy reporters. "I come from an era where you don't say nothing bad about someone's parent, so not at all.''
The brave soul who managed to pose the off-putting question to West was a radio station reporter. A Boston Celtics official tried his darndest to thwart the determined reporter, but his tactics were unsuccessful.
Last May, when the alleged sex scandal broke, folks were saying that the reason Lebron failed to bring his former team to a playoff series victory against the Celtics was because he was enraged that the 27-year-old West and his 42-year-old mom were playing tootsies under the sheets.
LeBron found out about the alleged affair before Game 4 of the Boston series. Industry watchers saw LeBron transform himself from a seriously focused ball player on a playoffs win to a passive and unfocused player in Games 4, 5 and 6.
In light of some of the pretty recent public sexcapades of sports figures, perhaps the James-West rumors aren't untrue as West contends: Consider Dwyane Wade's accusation that his wife gave him an STD, gridiron great Lawrence Taylor's rape/sexual assault charge; former major league ball player Dennis Eckersley's revelation that his wife had been sleeping with teammate Rick Manning and soccer sensation John Harkes' confession to his affair with fellow mate Eric Wynalda's wife.
In the meantime, West, who has admitted to suffering bouts of depression, has bigger fish to fry. He is back in Boston and faces a 10-game suspension beginning Oct. 26th, after pleading guilty to carrying three guns and two knifes while on a motorcycle in suburban Washington, D.C.
