Paterson Beats Charges in Former Aide's Domestic Violence Case

New York Gov. David A. Paterson won't face charges for his involvement in the case of a former top aide who was charged with domestic violence.

The New York Times reports that retired Court of Appeals Judge Judith Kaye, who was assigned to investigate the case, found that Paterson engaged in "inappropriate conduct" by contacting the alleged victim in the case.

Paterson's former top aide, David W. Johnson, was suspended without pay after allegations that he assaulted his former companion Sherr-una Booker last October.

Investigators found that Paterson contacted Booker while she was seeking a protection order against Johnson. Paterson has denied pressuring Booker to do anything.

The State Police may have also sought to pressure Booker from taking legal action against Johnson.

The legal mess caused five senior officials in Paterson's administration and two State Police leaders to resign.

Hopefully, this ruling represents the final headline that New Yorkers will have to endure regarding the sorryPaterson administration. I don't believe Paterson was nearly as bad as the biased New York tabloids would have you believe but it is time for new leadership as the final months of the Paterson administration drag on.
