UPDATE:
Pastor
Terry Jones is
reconsidering the Quran burning as he feels that he was lied to about the relocation of the Ground Zero mosque.
Imam Musri claims that the pastor exaggerated his words during Thursday's afternoon press conference.
Given today's recent developments, Jones has not canceled the Quran burning, but merely suspended it for the time being.
Additionally,
Hisham Elzanaty, one of the investors of the Ground Zero property, has dismissed real estate mogul
Donald Trump's
offer to purchase the property. His lawyer,
Wolodymyr Starosolsky, said that Trump's offer was a "cheap attempt to get publicity and get in the limelight."
UPDATE:
Defense Secretary
Robert Gates did call Pastor Jones regarding the military's concerns that burning Qurans would put troops at risk, expressing his "grave concern." The Secretary urged Jones not to proceed if it would save a single soldier's life.
Pastor Jones is staying with his information that there would be a meeting in New York on Saturday, although Imam Rauf has not spoken to either Jones or Imam Musri and released a statement saying that the suggestion of a meeting was a surprise to him. There are still no concrete details about the meeting.
Since Pastor
Terry Jones (pictured above) was supposedly guaranteed on Thursday that the
controversial mosque cultural center will be moved, the Koran burning he planned to hold on Saturday
will be canceled.
Jones and
Imam Muhammad Musri, a very influential Muslim leader in Florida, will meet with
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the leader of the spiritual component of the proposed cultural center and mosque, on Saturday to discuss finding a new location for the proposed
Islamic Cultural Center that was originally planned to be built near
Ground Zero.
Musri (pictured below) said that the placement of the site at Ground Zero is unnecessary and has become a clear provocation for violence across the country, while Rauf has agreed to be a part of the discussion.
Musri thanked Jones for his willingness to take into account the safety of the troops and the public. All parties agreed that no one would benefit from the controversy except extremists and terrorists.
To assist in the relocation,
Donald Trump is offering to buy out one of the investors at 25 percent above the asking price for the Ground Zero location.
SoHo Properties, the developers, has received offers from parties other than Trump, including those who are offering three times the asking price.
While not building the mosque near Ground Zero is good news to many, the developers of the mosque cultural center say that it is not being moved at this point. There have been no words from the imam regarding the SoHo Properties buyout.
