Edi Gathegi, who played Laurent in 'Twilight' and 'New Moon,' has signed on to 'X-Men: First Class.'
The 31 year old Kenya native will play Armando Munoz, also known as Darwin, a mutant who has the power of adaptive evolution. His power automatically gives him various abilities based on his environment.
With Matthew Vaughn directing, 'X-Men: First Class,' following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga.
Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.
Already cast in the film are James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy, also known as Beast, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Lucas Till as Havok, and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw.
20th Century Fox will release the film on June 3, 2011.
Gathegi has just finished shooting 'Atlas Shrugged,' a film based on the Ayn Rand novel of the same name. His other film roles include 'Death Sentence,' 'Gone Baby Gone,' and 'My Bloody Valentine 3D.'
