"Let's Talk About Hair", was the name of this episode of "Reed Between The Lines". The episode dealt with the love/hate relationship black women have with their hair. I give "Reed Between The Lines" credit for trying to tackle issues and pepper those issues with humor and education. The hair issue for Black women is always ripe for plundering. The issue is the oldest daughter, Kaci, played by Zoe Soul has curly long hair. Some would call Kaci's hair "good hair". When Kaci is asked to wear a wig for the school play she is unsure until a potential love interest tells her he loves her hair (wig). Mom (Tracee Ellis Ross) uses a hot iron to press out little Kaci's hair. Kaci gets more compliments, and then Kaci is busted in the bathroom preparing to give herself a home "perm". Mom stops her just in time, and the lesson begins. It's all about how beautiful her natural hair is and how ridiculous it is to change her hair for a boy. Kaci insists that she loves the new style because it's beautiful and not because of the boy. The bottom line, not only is perming you hair permanently damaging to the hair, but if that is your style of beauty, seek a professional to perm the hair. As lessons and jokes go, this episode had more lessons than jokes.
