'The Playboy Club': Black Bunny AmbitionsWho knew one of the most progressive shows on TV would be about The Playboy Club? This fictional story based around the real Playboy Clubs of the 50's and 60's has everything from closeted gay characters to Black female characters with actual storylines. Brenda, the Black bunny, (sidenote: Hef has always been proud of his strong stance on integration long before it was accepted) tries to become the first Black bunny on the cover of Playboy magazine. Brenda tells the Hef character in her interview that she "wants to show people that she can do anything." We find out later that Brenda has been saving all her money in a box to buy real estate. Brenda doesn't just want any real estate in the ghetto she wants prized real estate. Brenda will be an interesting character to follow. The Playboy Club doesn't just have Brenda but it also has Jennifer Lewis in the show. Jennifer Lewis' character has a strong story as well. Very few other network shows based in the white world have as many well developed Black characters in their storylines. Bravo Playboy Club.
