For those of you who have never heard of
Rumeal Robinson, he was a star college basketball player for
Michigan back in the '80s. Now he's getting ready to serve time.
Robinson was convicted of 11 charges that included bank bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution,
according to the Associated Press.
Prosecutors say that Robinson borrowed more than $700,000 from a bank in
Iowa, saying that it was to start a new business. Instead, he bought a condo, cars, furniture and invested in an energy company. Robinson was sentenced to six and a half years in prison and was ordered to pay $1.2 million in restitution charges.
In college, Robinson averaged 14.3 points and 5.7 assists a game is mostly known for making two free throws to seal the national title for Michigan in 1989 against
Seton Hall. He was drafted by the
Atlanta Hawks in 1990 but didn't make much of an impact in the
NBA. He was shipped from team to team for most of his career, including the
New Jersey Nets,
Phoenix Suns,
Portland Trailblazers,
Charlotte Hornets and the
L.A. Lakers. He also spent time in the Continental Basketball League and the Euroleague.
