Louisiana state worker Tammy Crain-Waldrop thought she was making a great point about race in America by sending a doctored photo, depicting President Barack Obama as a white man.
But Crain-Waldrop made the dumb mistake of sending her e-mail to black lawmakers who found it offensive.
Now Crain-Waldrop is facing suspension without pay, pending an investigation by the Louisiana State Senate.
The e-mail showed Obama with light skin, blue eyes and a different hairstyle and asked "Do you like him any better now? No? Me neither.... Then you're not a racist."
I'm not exactly sure what Crain-Waldrop was trying to say in her silly, confused e-mail.
I guess she was trying to tell people that being opposed to President Obama doesn't make you a racist. Okay. Tell us something we don't know, Tammy.
No one ever said people can't have legitimate disagreements with Obama over policy that don't involve his race. Sounds like Crain-Waldrop, not the black people she so kindly sought to educate, is hung up on the race of the president.
Despite her arrogance and stupidity, I would hate to see Crain-Waldrop lose her job over her e-mail. Times are hard and she deserves a second chance.
But a suspension without pay for a week or so will give Crain-Waldrop ample time to figure out if sending e-mails through the state government system, which talk down to black people, was a good idea.
