Jackson music family matriarch
Katherine (pictured seated above, second left) has revealed to the world that she once confronted her son
Michael about his drug use.
The 80-year-old
opened up to talk show diva
Oprah Winfrey about her confrontation with Michael after hearing rumors about his possible longstanding addiction to drugs.
Katherine, who has legal guardianship of Michael's three children, admitted that she did in fact try to speak to her son about his bout with drugs on one occasion. "He denied it," she says. "I was telling him that I didn't want to hear one day that he had overdosed because it would break my heart. It would kill me. He kept saying, 'Mother, you don't believe me. My own mother doesn't believe me,'" she recalls.
Joe (pictured above, standing), the family patriarch, not long ago,
publicly blasted his wife in an interview with a British tabloid. He claimed that Katherine could have done more to save their son from spiraling down into the prescription drug hell he was in before he tragically died at age 50 last year. Joe went on to admit that he urged his wife to talk to Michael about his addiction but she refused.
Michael passed away on June 25, 2009 from a lethal dose of the powerful anesthetic
Propofol which he used to induce sleep in preparation for his mega
"This Is It" worldwide tour. Michael's highly anticipated, sold-out series of concerts -- 50 in all -- were scheduled to begin in July 2009 and end in March 2010 but the King of Pop died three weeks before the first date.
The entire Jackson family interview airs on
'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' Monday, November 8th. Check your local listings.
