Investigators made a gruesome discovery this week, when the headless body of a North Carolina man was found stuffed in the freezer of his home.
But the story took a more bizarre twist, when the murder of David Green Jr. (pictured), 52, was linked to his longtime girlfriend, Wendy Green (pictured below), 41, and the couple's two teenage children, David Green III, 15, and Alexis Green, 17.
Though the couple never married, Wendy Green took the name of her longtime partner and gave the name to their offspring, but little surrounding the case evokes any sense of caring among the family members.
Investigators believe the body may have been in the freezer since January 2009, and the wife and children may have fed parts of the body to the family's pet pit bull. The woman and children are also believed to have brought friends to their home to see the mutilated remains of David Green.
A Juvenile Justice spokesman in Wake County, N.C., said the teenagers will be tried as adults on the murder charges if a judge finds probable cause for those charges at a later hearing.
Authorities said a cousin of David Green became alarmed, when Green failed to show up at the funerals of two family members. At the same time, Wendy Green was withdrawing money from her companion's bank accounts. She said David Green was traveling out of the country.
David Green's family members hired a private investigator and details of the crime began to emerge after David Green's brother filed a missing person's report.
I"m sure that additional stomach-turning details will also continue to emerge during the trial of of Wendy Green and her two children. Those are facts that I, for one, will be able to do without. No explanation in the world will answer the question of why the Greens turned so violently on their family member.
