New Jersey Nets Give 75K for Paralyzed Rutgers Football Player Eric Legrand

A week ago, Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand (pictured above) suffered an injury during game that left him paralyzed from the neck down. After the injury, LeGrand had emergency surgery to repair some of his spinal cord but there's no word if he'll be able to walk again. But in an effort to raise awareness about his injury, the New Jersey Nets have raised $75,000 for the "Eric LeGrand Believe Fund."

"The Nets have always been at the forefront in community involvement, and we could think of no greater cause to get involved with than the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Eric," said Nets general manager Billy King. "We hope that our donation will spur others throughout the state and country to also contribute, and we will be actively publicizing how donations can be made both on our njnets.com website, our social networking sites and at our home games."

Contributions to the Nets donation were made from the organizations, players, coaches and other staff. The team partnered with Nets point guard Devin Harris' "34 Ways to Assist Foundation" to raise the money.

"We just wanted to find a way to show our support," said Harris. "The athletic community is a very tight-knit group, and what happened to Eric is something that affects all athletes at every level. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."

Contributions to the fund are not tax deductible and can be made by sending a check payable to the "Eric LeGrand Believe Fund" to:
