R&B star Monica recently got engaged to Los Angeles Laker guard Shannon Brown.
The 'Everything To Me' singer confirmed the engagement on Twitter and posted a picture of her 10-carat diamond ring for fans to see.
"We realize people will have their opinions. That's the way of the world. But we know who we are & who's we are. We pray 2 an awesome God 2gether And that is what keeps us strong. So for all my real supporters who are happy for me. I thank u, I love u, & I'm realistic enough about life To know my journey has just begun. I don't have anything else to say about it. 2 people who judge. If u worked on self u wouldn't even see me." - her unedited post read via @MonicaMyLife.
The 29-year-old vocalist and the 24-year-old hoops star met this summer on the set of Monica's music video for the song 'Love All Over Me,' where Brown was the leading man.
A family friend told blogger Sandra Rose that the NBA player proposed in a "very intimate setting" in front of both sets of parents.
Fans and foes alike began bombarding Monica with feedback about the engagement - both pro and con - and the singer abruptly decided to shut down her Twitter page.
In a farewell letter, she wrote:
"Hey there. I want to thank all of u who have been so supportive of myself & family for so many years. I hate to say this, but I will no longer be on twitter.
I love the fact that I am able to speak to my REAL supporters but it has also become a way for people to do malicious things, when my sole intent was to spread positivity. I love u guys dearly and will find ways to stay in touch.
I have dear friends on twitter & team Monica will make sure u have all information on dates etc. Again I love u guys.
But this is better for the protection of my children, my family, fiancé and fans. Too much is being said that I didn't say and for a person that believes so strongly in being 100 at ALL times. I just can't do it. I will see all of u guys very soon.
I LOVE U ...Take care"
Monica, who released her successful comeback CD 'Still Standing' in March, was previously engaged to rapper Rodney "Rocko" Hill.
They split earlier this year and have two sons together, Rodney Hill Jr. and Romello Montez.
