Steve Harvey has been extremely committed towards giving back this year.
On Aug. 28, the 'Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man' author threw his eighth annual Hoodie Awards in Las Vegas to celebrate schools, business and leaders from around the country. A few months earlier, he held his first-annual Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation Gala at the upscale Cipriani Wall Street in New York City to raise money for a ten-city mentoring tour for young men.
The syndicated radio personality and recent host of 'Family Feud' previously brought together big-name celebrities and 100 boys ages 13-18 along with their guardians for his Mentoring Weekend in 2009, which took place on his Dallas ranch during Father's Day weekend.
Now, the relationship expert and funnyman is poised to give back to young women through his first-annual Girls Who Rule the World Mentoring Weekend. The brainchild of his wife, Marjorie Bridges Harvey, the three-days of seminars will bring 100 teenage girls to the Omni CNN Center Hotel in Atlanta the weekend of Oct.22.
'The View' co-host, Sherri Shepherd, singer Keri Hilson, actress Terri Vaughn, former Essence magazine beauty editor Mikki Taylor, and CBS News Correspondent Shannon Eis are a few of the notable female celebrities who will motivate and educate young girls during the festivities.
Mrs. Harvey, who is president of the foundation, said they chose to do their first girls weekend in Atlanta for a few reasons.
"Since Georgia has the highest number of high school drop outs and third highest prostitution rates among teenage girls, GWRTW is designed to offer these girls the life skills needed to overcome teenage obstacles and establish a path to success, " she stated.
Executive Vice Preside of Wal-Mart U.S. and President of Wal-Mart Stores South, Rosalind Brewer, as well as Turner Broadcasting's Chief Marketing Officer, Brenda Freeman will speak about their careers and give advice on how to follow in their footsteps to the young ladies.
And, State Farm has graciously signed on as the title sponsor of the event. Their VP of Marketing, Pam El added, "At State Farm, we are thrilled to support The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation as part of our ongoing commitment to support the future of America's youth. Creating an environment where young women can gain the extra support they need to get a good education and career is crucial to our country's future."
As previously reported, the Essence Magazine columnist will release the follow-up to his New York Times Best-Seller, titled, 'Straight Talk, No Chaser' on Dec. via Harper Collins.
