Bad policing seems to be a uniquely American product, but bad guys with badges can work anywhere in the world.
The latest example of poor policing making the rounds on the Internet comes from Australia, where police officers were caught on tape Tasering a drunk man who posed no risk.
If they had buzzed him once to force him to comply with orders, one might be inclined to give the Aussie cops a break. But they shocked the man a total of 13 times. He did nothing more than roll around on the floor trying to avoid the electric jolts.
Though nine officers were present, just two officers were fined for unjust use of Tasers, which are supposed to be employed by the West Australian Police Force only in situations of immediate danger or serious injury.
The 39-year-old suspect was taken into custody by police after "assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and common assault."
Funny, those are almost the exact same charges police in this country use to explain away a beat-down delivered to a suspect.
The suspect decided not to press charges against the officers. Neither was fired. In fact, one was promoted to sergeant since the Taser attack. Figures an officer who should be fired gets a promotion.
We all know most police officers simply want to do their jobs and get home safely. But every now and then, bad apples can be found in the barrel.
Bad cops do no one any favors. They hurt the credibility of good police officers and endanger the public they are sworn to serve. Brutal cops ought to be fired as soon as they make themselves known.
