Lionsgate has released a new photo from Tyler Perry's 'For Colored Girls,' featuring Whoopi Goldberg and Thandie Newton.
Based on Ntozake Shange's play 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf,' the film expands the cast (from the play) as it weaves together the stories of nine different women - Joanna, Tangie, Crystal, Gilda, Kelly, Juanita, Yasmine, Nyla and Alice - as they move into and out of one another's existences; some are well known to one another, others are as yet strangers.
Joanna (played by Janet Jackson), is a sophisticated businesswoman struggling to make her way in the corporate world, Alice (played by Whoopi Goldberg), is a spiritualist, using faith as her guiding principle in life, Tangie (played by Thandie Newton), plays the rebellious daughter of Alice who rejects her way of life, Kelly (played by Kerry Washington), a young woman is reaching for happiness in revolving relationships, Juanita (played by Loretta Devine), an middle-aged woman who sees her chances for lasting love dwindling, Crystal (played by Kimberly Elise), a woman in an abusive marriage, Gilda (played by Phylicia Rashad), stricken with anxiety and fear.
Crises, heartbreaks and crimes will ultimately bring these nine women fully into the same orbit where they will find commonality and understanding. Each will speak her truth as never before. And each will know that she is complete as a human being, glorious and divine in all her colors.
Also included in the cast are Omari Hardwick, Hill Harper, Anika Noni Rose, Tessa Thompson, Macy Gray, Khalil Kain, and Richard Lawson.
The film will be release in theaters on November 5.
