Foxy Brown Plans to Sue NYC for $100 Million Dollars

For now, Foxy Brown 's long-running rap sheet won't get any longer, following the dismissal of charges that she violated her probation in a 2010 incident with a neighbor.

But the Brooklyn MC, born Inga Marchand, apparently felt violated that prosecutors pressed charges against her after she allegedly mooned her neighbor last July, and is planning on filing a $100 million-dollar lawsuit against the city of New York.

According to the New York Post, Brown's lawyer, Salvatore Strazzullo, is also filing a claim against the Assistant District Attorney's office for "malicious" treatment of his client. "With school budgets cut, they had the audacity" to file charges, he said to the Post. "Do we want our tax dollars going for this?"

Luckily for the controversial rapper, her accuser, Arlene Raymond, refused to testify against her resulting in Wednesday's dismissal. Raymond, who has an order of protection against the 32-year-old rapper, was also involved in a 2007 encounter where Brown struck her in the face with a BlackBerry. The altercation sent the rapper to Rikers Island prison for violating a probation order that was in place, stemming from another heated altercation where she beat up two manicurists back in 2004.

At press time, a rep for the city's Corporation Counsel told the Post that they "have not seen any legal papers" from Brown's team, before adding that the assistant district attorneys have "absolute immunity" from being prosecuted, and that the city would likely move for immediate dismissal.

Parents At Risk For Losing Super Obese Children?

obesity

Medical professionals are in talks about the state of obese children because the nation as a whole is facing an epidemic, with Mississippians in the worse shape, but the youngest Americans are also in dire condition. It's no surprise that First Lady Michelle Obama is on a crusade to combat childhood obesity. Obese children become obese adults at risk for cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol, so Dr. David Ludwig, an obesity specialist at Harvard-affiliated Children's Hospital Boston is advocating to get out the root of the problem with parents.

Parents and especially mothers play a major role in their children's diets by purchasing and selecting the food for the household. Older children can spend what little spending money they have on unhealthy snacks but the majority of their meals are planned by their parents and their eating habits are developed at an early age.

"Numerous parental influences shape the eating habits of youth including; the choice of an infant feeding method, the foods they make available and accessible, the amount of time children are left unsupervised and their eating interactions with others in the social context. Several studies suggest that breastfeeding offers a small but consistent protective effect against obesity in children," the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services advises.

"Roughly 2 million U.S. children are extremely obese. Most are not in imminent danger, Ludwig said in an opinion piece in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association. "But some have obesity-related conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties and liver problems that could kill them by age 30. It is these kids for whom state intervention, including education, parent training, and temporary protective custody in the most extreme cases, should be considered."

Ludwig says he was convinced that parents are behind the dilemma after he was introduced to a 90-pound 3-year-old girl years ago whose parents had physical disabilities, a small household income and trouble helping her control her weight.
Last year at 12-years-old she was 400 pounds and developed diabetes, cholesterol problems, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. But now after a year removed from her family and placed in foster care eating 3 supervised meals and healthy snacks, she lost 130 pounds.

If the government enforces stricter enforcement "we just have to do it with caution and humility and make sure we really can say that our interventions are going to do more good than harm," as medical ethicist Dr. Lainie Ross from the University of Chicago says.

Ross is right but foster care seems extreme and may not be the most beneficial solution for a child. But it is time to better educate parents on how the decisions they make effect the lives their children lead. Medical professionals in London seem to be in agreement with Ludwig and "they argued that child protection services should be considered if parents are neglectful or actively reject efforts to control an extremely obese child's weight;" reports AP.

Alternatives to Ludwigs plans would be family counseling instead of removal. Or if removal is necessary perhaps the child can stay with a better educated family member like Jerri Gray, a Greenville, S.C., who lost custody of her 554 pound 14-year-old to her sister. Ludwig says ideally he would want the goal to be reuniting child and family as soon as possible.

Is Ludwig's proposal reasonable?

From Think Progress:

The defining moment of former pizza executive Herman Cain's upstart presidential bid came in March when he told ThinkProgress that he would not be comfortable appointing Muslims in his administration. The exact question I asked Cain was: "Would you be comfortable appointing a Muslim, either in your cabinet or as a federal judge?" To which, he responded, "No, I will not." (Imposing a religious test is patently unconstitutional.)

Michael Rapaport talks 'Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest'

$

From A.V. Club:

Actor-turned-filmmaker Michael Rapaport has deep roots in the hip-hop community: He got his big break playing half of an interracial couple in 1992's Zebrahead, a film whose soundtrack introduced the world to Nas, before going on to play a deeply confused, suspiciously Semitic-looking neo-Nazi opposite Busta Rhymes and Ice Cube in John Singleton's Higher Learning. He's also costarred opposite Woody Allen in Small Time Crooks and Mighty Aphrodite and stolen scenes as the obnoxious antagonist in the 2009 dark comedy Big Fan. Through it all, Rapaport has remained deeply invested in hip-hop as a fan and as a filmmaker. He recently made his feature-length directorial debut with Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest, a powerful, unexpectedly moving film about the legendary New York hip-hop outfit that focuses on the emotionally charged love-hate relationship between perfectionist frontman Q-Tip and lovable sidekick Phife Dawg. The A.V Club spoke to Rapaport at the Sundance film festival this year about killing his babies (metaphorically speaking), Q-Tip's complicated feelings about the documentary, and whether there will ever be another Tribe Called Quest album.

Organized by celeb wedding planner Mindy Weiss, the romantic bash featured a 40-piece gospel choir, a blue color scheme and a menu including short ribs, Fatburgers and a lemon horse-and-carriage cake.

Beyonce's Dad Speaks Out on Theft Allegations

Mathew KnowlesAs we reported earlier this week, Mathew Knowles, the father and former manager of megastar Beyoncé Knowles, has filed court papers against Live Nation Entertainment over claims he stole funds from this daughter.

After lots of speculation on the details of the case, Knowles finally responded in an interview with the Associated Press yesterday.

"We absolutely have not taken any money from Beyoncé, and all dollars will be accounted for," he said. "In no way have we stole money. Again, this about the people who have made these claims - they have to come into the light."

Knowles said that while he has not specifically addressed these claims with Beyoncé herself, he did tell her that the "the only way [they] will be able to understand this is through a court of law."
In March, Beyoncé's camp released a statement announcing the split with her father. "He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly," the singer said in a statement. "I am grateful for everything he has taught me."

On Thursday, Mathew Knowles corroborated the mutual goodwill. "The relationship with Beyoncé is extremely amicable," he said. "I want to make that clear. Where there's concern is the people that she's doing business with, I'm challenging all of these folks on integrity, professional integrity."

But when later asked he did admit that they hadn't spoken since she let him go.

After years of watching this family work together to build a music, movie and fashion empire, we hope this issue gets resolved soon and the wounds from this scandal get healed for the Knowles family's sake.

Neither representatives for Beyoncé nor Roc Nation have commented on Mathew Knowles case or recent statements.

Great news for music fans across the globe, D'Angelo's long-awaited follow-up to 2000's 'Voodoo,' 'James River,' may finally see the light of day before next January. And despite previous reports of the crooner setting a 2010 release date in the past, this time around appears to be pretty certain.

Earlier this week long time D'Angelo collaborator and Roots member, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson confirmed via Twitter that the Grammy Award-winner is back in the studio crafting tracks. "Most people use midnight as a time to sleep. Others are working on their 11 year follow-up. This of course being hour number one," he wrote during a July 12 studio session with the singer.

To go along with the previous rumored release dates, D'Angelo has also been reported to collaborating with the likes of Prince, John Mayer, Raphael Saadiq, Cee Lo, and Mark Ronson. However, it has not been confirmed as to whether the tracks will end up on the forthcoming opus.

Last year the reclusive singer appeared on Ronson's September released compilation, 'Record Collection.' Ronson spoke with 'MTV News' on what it was like recording with the Virginia native.

"A year ago I got a call from someone and they said, 'Listen, we're working with D'Angelo for his new record and the only people who came up in the conversation that he said he would like to work with is you and Cee Lo.' And I was just kind of floored by that," he said. "I ended up meeting him, he came to the studio. And like I was saying before, he's sort of like this mysterious figure. It was almost like a mirage when he came in."

According to Billboard, 'James River' is tentatively set for a late 2011, early 2012 release on J Records.

Bobby Brown Opens Up on New Edition's Reunion and More

New Edition's 1983 top-ten single, 'Is This the End,' told a melodic tale of heartbreak and separation, similar to the group's much publicized breakup in the 1980s. Luckily, the group have since matured and put their differences behind them with a pair of reunion shows within the last few weeks.

For Bobby Brown, reuniting on stage with his long-time friends is a humbling experience. A drastic contrast in attitude coming from the former bad boy of R&B, who was initially kicked out of the group in 1986 for his image.

The 'My Prerogative' singer opened up exclusively for New York magazine on New Edition's first show at this year's annual Essence Music Festival. "I was just happy that they was able to keep up with me. Me, myself, being Bobby Brown? You know, I was just hoping that somebody in the group was gonna have feet like mine," he said before group member Ricky Bell joked, "That's why he's getting kicked out the group again. Everyone, enjoy Bobby's performance tonight, because it'll be his last."

From the Atlantic:

When LeBron James announced just over a year ago that he was joining Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and the Miami Heat, the NBA world exploded with questions. Were stars free to buck loyalty and team up in the city they liked the most? For big-market teams, was this the new model of roster-building to aspire towards? Were the Heat going to win the next decade of championships? Was life worth living in Cleveland? The noise never died down, and "The Decision" was the catalyst to an especially memorable NBA season.
